Transmission problem
1998 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Then tranny makes a growling sound when going and shifts fine and normal. I took apart passenger side wheel and brakes and turn axle by hand and hear a rubbing sound like a chain or spring every one revolution. Please help. What could it be and must I take tranny apart

I would check the wheel bearings, CV shaft boots for leaks, control arm bushings and ball joints first.

If indeed a trans problem, then output shaft bearings in trans are suspect.
