Noises problem
1997 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I originally had a tapping noise which I knew was a bad lifter. Well I ran my car too low on oil and it started popping loudly. I added oil and the popping noise got softer. Now when I start the car it runs fine in all aspects, except now the tapping is no longer noticeable and there is a very low popping noise coming from the same place. I only travel short distance because I'm not sure what has happened and am worried that it may have damaged something else.

If the motor was ran low on oil there is definitely internal damage. The pistons, valves, bearings all are vulnerable with no lubrication. Most likely something was damaged and is starting to fail, that is the noise you hear. Nothing can really be down other than tearing motor down and rebuilding it or just driving it until it no longer runs.
