I plan on rebuilding starter myself but since I have never had a Cavalier, I just want to know how hard it is to get out and if I will have to do some major work to get it out. I'm no stranger to hard work or working on Cars since I have had at least 50 different cars in my lifetime. I just want to know what I am up against taking on this job of rebuilding the starter. I was told by a good friend of mine that all there is to making this starter work, is to take it out and clean the grooves in the commutator. I plan on replacing the brushes if they are badly worn also since I'll have it out anyway. Any info would be appreciated. I'm waiting for a warm day to work on this project as I do not have a nice warm garage to work on this car.

Starters are fairly inexpensive on this unit. It is easy to remove if the crossmember hasn't been bent by doing " curb" checks. Cheaper and easy to replace than rebuilding. Good luck
