Engine Performance problem
1995 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 125000 miles
I have a 95 Cavalier with an auto transmission.
Recently, it's developed a problem where it stalls when put in gear only after the engine is hot.
For the first 20 minutes or so on the road, it runs like a champ. No misses, tranny seems strong. It never slips or gives any indication that anything is wrong. Once it it is warm, as I come to a stop, I notice the idle is rough and the engine stalls as I stop. I can restart it immediately in Park or neutral, but the SECOND I put it into drive, it dies. I can start it just fine, but until it cools off, it dies when placed in gear. I took it into a shop and requested a computer diagnostic on it. They just called back and told me they'd decided it was the transmission, and it will cost me $1,000 to have a used transmission put in.
My question is: is it possible a bad transmission can cause this problem?
have the same problem?
