My car started making a loud noice torwards the back of my car and when I accelerate it get really loud. It also takes forever to acellerate and seems to me that my car is misfiring. I took my car to a family mechanic and he said it was the catalyic converter. I've gotten it repaired and it still make the noise. A new mechanic told me that I need a tune up and my coils replaced. Could this be the reason why it's happening?

p.S. Is this the reason that I can smell gas fumes?

Thanks

Engine running rough or misfiring can be cause by the following:

1. Defective spark plug
2. Inadequate spark/coil, defective spark plug wire.
3. Lack of compression
4. False air leakage.
5. Faulty fuel injectors.
6. Insufficient fuel pressure.
7. Contaminated fuel.
8. EGR valve that is leaking.
9. Oxygen sensors.
10. Throttle position sensor.
11. Idle air control valve.

I had a problem just like this with an '02 V6 camaro.
Cat converter went bad, blocking exhaust, engine bay got warm, ignition coils got cooked. Check plugs and wires, but coils are probably the cause. They are cheap on Ebay.
