Replaced the mass air flow sensor in '99 Camaro after code reader indicated it was bad. Tried cleaning it first and that didn't help. Car ran great for about a week. Now it won't start and code reader again is indicating mass air flow sensor. Codes have been cleared and car turns over but still won't start.

When the computer points out a problem with a particular system, it's not saying that a part is bad. It's only pointing you to that system so you can do an accurate diagnosis and isolate the part that is bad.

Your's could be the connector, wiring, or even the computer itself. If you're handy with a DVOM, I'll walk you through the steps to pinpoint what's wrong. In the mean time, you shouldn't just replace parts. That'll only cost you time and money.

Don't hesitate to write back if you feel comfortable tackling this job yourself. I have access to all the information you'll need, as well as 18-years experience. It's a simple enough procedure.

Thanks Ernest. The car is at college with my son and I hope to go there in a few days to see what I can do with it. I will definately let you know when I do and hope that you can guide me through it. I'm far from the greatest when it comes to electricity, but can follow directions with the best of them. I can borrow a multimeter from a friend when I go. Thanks again!

I'm heading to my son's school this Saturday morning. (2-27-10) I have a multimeter and will try to chase down the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated as electricity is not my strong point. Thank you.
