I have a 1998 V6 Chevy Camaro, which has had some problems lately. Recently, when I have been starting from a complete stop, it seems as if it was having trouble getting going. It seems to jerk back-and-forth, and once it gets going, its fine, it also doesn't have much power to speed up. It also "rattles" when it is idleing. I have recently gone to Auto Zone, where they offer a free report/test, and bought a part to replace one that wasn't emitting a spark ("Cylinder Misfire Detected - Random Cylinders" -- We replaced the ignition coil for 2 + 5 since it was not emitting a spark once the engine was turned on). Thinking that was the problem, we tested it again with the test/report device, and it passed. As I was leaving the auto parts store, the check engine light went on, and flashed, thus, telling me the problem was not fixed. Also, I can hear a wierd sound while the car is running, in the rear of the car, and I was thinking that it would be the catalytic converter. Help!

You checked and still have the same codes
have you checked or replaced the plugs and wires
may I suggest to start with a good tune up make sure ignition system is firing on all cylinders
and then will see if you still have the misfire then you have to move on to injectors and vacuum leaks + compression
I would start with a good tune up 1st
good luck

We removed the plug wires from the second ignition coil, neither had an adverse effect on the way the engine was running. We think that either the ignition coil was bad, or what supplies power to the ignition coil is falty.

So you have no spark on them cylinders
(you need to check if it arc or not)
then switch or replace coil and if still no spark at the same cylinder you need a new module
if moves with the coil then the coil no good

Thank you. The second ignition coil, would ark for 10 seconds, then stop. BUT, we looked into it, and trouble shooted it, and it was the Ignition Modulator!
Its fixed, and running perfectly! Thank-you for your help.
