I recently bought a camaro 3.4 v6 and when I pulled the oil filter it had a small amount of gold dust inthe oil. You have to look real close to see it but its a fine powder. The engine has had the heads and valves redone and also the cam. It has just gotten to its first 3000 mile oil change since the work was done. Car runs great but is this gold powder normal after heads valves and cam being redone.
thanks for any help

Makes me wonder if they changed the oil right after work was done. Sounds like the cam may have gone flat or had another problem. Could be leftover material in engine from that. Change oil, and drive a few miles and then do it again and look for more material. Does it make any knocking or tapping noise? Good oil pressure?

No the engine is as quiet as a new one no tapping or knocking. Oil pressure very good no error codes.I was leaning toward them not changing oil after rebuild. The oil is very clean other than the faint gold dust. I read where this is common on many new cars as you should change oil first 1000 miles to clear the metal residue. So I am hoping it will clear up after a couple oil changes.
