Now it wont come up and grab the hach to latch it down. I had to unplug the motor to stop it from running. If plugeed it it just runs and nothing happens. Would you be able to help me where to start? If you could that would be so heplfull

Hello,
I have the exact same problem you had with the power rear hatch of my 89 z28 camaro. I would like to fix the problem myself. I am also thinking of not using the motor and close the hatch manually. Could you tell me how you solved the problem?
Thankyou

comaro from Los Angeles

The rear hatch motor is a weak system with plastic gears and such.I've replaced several. To replace the motor is an easy fix. You can get one off e-bay or at a local used parts house or get a new one. If you get one from a wrecking yard take it out of the car your self and have it checked out before purchase. Most that i've found are bad

I found a permanent fix for those hatch motor problems. Eliminate the hatch motor, and weld the slide bracket and latch in place where the hatch is fully closed. I did this with mine, I took the hatch motor off and had a friend sit on the hatch while I marked were the slide bracket and latch should stay from the inside, and then welded the brackets so they wouldnt slide, and it works great. It just closes like a normal trunk.
