i was wondering what would make my car cut out at high rpm's from 1'st to 2nd gear sometimes even 3rd gear if I let my car set on a hot day sometimes it cuts out sometimes it dont and then some days it wont cut out at all my rotory button screw came out and made my rotary button break my distributor cap changed all that doesnt idle that good turned my distributor seems to idle better then it use 2 also took off the old smog pump it no longer worked thats when I started noticing the cut outs wondering if that could be the problem. I dont have the smog pump anymore

You might try checking your coil wire for resistence as you ahd to take it out to fix the rotor and dist cap. It sounds elelctrical. It could also be your dist advance moving the wires to the pickup coil and cutting it out from that. You might as well change your fuel and air filter while you are at it. And make sure all your ignition connections are good.

I dont have a hei distributor its just a regular one my coil is on the left side on a bracket that part of my smog pump was on but took all that off except my coil but I will check the other stuff u mentioned I was wondering where the advance wires are mybe under the rotary button? I was thinking mybe it was getting a lil hot but I took my thermostat out and it doesnt do it as bad or as often but it still likes to do it sometimes it mostly does it picking up speed in 1st gear
