Ok this is a 83Z28 but nothing about it is stock. I have a 383 Stroker in it. CDI ignition pro comp box with a MSD 85551 distr. My timing is all over the map, and I think it's causing it to overheat as well. What coud possiably be causing this. It's a new distr. Could the box be bad?

If your distributor has a vacuum line pull it off. If not go to MSD's website and look on how to time the engine. It could also be your cam causing this. Also you should tme the engine for total advance at about 2500-2600 RPM. Start at about 36 degrees but don't adavance any farther than about 40 degrees to be on the safe side. It all depends on spark knock.
