There is excessive play in the steering wheel on our '97 Blazer 4x4. Idler arm, pitman arms are new. Alignment is good. Is there any adjustment to the steering box? And how is it performed?

There is and I would take it to someone who knows how to do it! If you overtighten it, you can actually saw the sector shaft in half as you drive. Then you will loose ALL steering! It is done by using a torque wrench on the steering whell nut, adjusting to required ft lbs when the engine is off. If you still want to try it yourself let me know and I will try to get the spec for it. It's usually around 100lbs. The locknut is on the top of the box and you use a screwdriver to turn the adjustment screw.

Use my instructions above and you will be fairly close, tighten by screwing in and locking the nut tight. Tighten till desired play is gone! Do a litltle at a time! You test torque with enginge off. Wrench on the steering wheel nut. Should take 100ft lbs or so to turn the wheel.
