My check engine light came on when I went to pass someone I drove it the rest of the way to work and everything seamed fine. Motor didn't do anything funny and all gages where fine. Is there a way that I can try to reset this myself is it true that if you unhook the battery for a minute it will reset the computer and if so can doing this mess anything else up.

yes disconnecting the battery will reset the computer
may I suggest getting the code 1st before you do reset it
that will help in future repair if needed
also check gas cap
and is it due for a tune up
some local part store will scan the system for you free of charge you should have it scanned
good luck
