2004 Chevy Blazer Check engine light

The check engine light recently came on. I took it to O'Reilly's to have it scanned to see what the code was and he tried 2 different scanners and said each one showed a fault and would not scan. He said that probably meant the computer itself was bad. Wondering if that was a correct assumption and how this can be detected spending minimal amount of money. Also, if the computer is bad does this create a problem itself with the functioning of the vehicle?

Id take the advice from the guy at o reillys with a grain of salt. I dont think they have any experience or training in repairing vehicles. Take it to a repair shop and have them scan it. Its about your only option
