1995 Chevy Blazer Fuel filter or pump

Would a clogged fuel filter cause my fuel pump to fail. I have been having no problems and then yesterday I stopped at an intersection and the engine died and won't restart. Cranks over fine but I can no longer hear the fuel pump running and it won't start. How/where should I start to solve this problem.

Start by making sure there is no fuel pressure to the engine. Also, if there is pressure, check for spark.
