I got a 1993 blazer, my problem is that when I try to start it, it backfires & breaks the starter bolts! I've replace the starter twice now! The timing is good still. Just didn't know if I have an exhaust valve stuck, not relieving the pressure or what exactly is going on! Any info/ help would be greatly appreciated!

thank

Does it run at all? Do a compression test on all cylinders to find a stuck exhaust valve.

Yea it did run before this happened. But all it does now is when you go to start it it backfires, rotates backwards, & breaks the starter bolts! I haven't ran a compression test on it yet, but that was my next step!

Be sure to remove the valve covers for the compression test. Inspect the valve springs. You may have a broken valve spring.A stuck lifter. Or a bent valve. Keep us posted.

YEA, I HAD A BRAIN FART WHEN I REPLIED! I CAN'T DO A COMPRESSION TEST BECAUSE IT DOES.T RUN NOW! 1 TRY, THEN POP! ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS, BESIDES TEARING THE HEADS OFF!

Remove all the spark plugs and turn the engine by hand or crank the starter for 3 seconds to do the compression test on each cylinder. Once again - REMOVE THE VALVE COVERS AND LOOK AT THE VALVE SPRINGS. BE SURE A VALVE SPRING ISN'T BROKEN AND A LIFTER ISN'T STUCK.

BTW - You DO NOT run the engine for a compression test.
