Electrical problem
1995 Chevy Beretta 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 123k miles

Hey, I own a 1995 Chevrolet Beretta and I have some problem with the cigarette lighter blowing my 20 AMP fuse.

I took it to a mechanic and he told me that it was a bad cigarette lighter unit (the whole thing, not just the actual cigarette lighter). I bought one that says it is compatible with my car at AutoZone, brought it to him, he installed it, but it still wont work right.

Before it was like no power is going to it, now whenever I put something into it it almost instantly blows the fuse.

He said that the power the cigarette lighter was receiving was good, meaning probably not a wire problem.

Any ideas what it could be? Do I need to maybe buy a Chevrolet cigarette lighter unit that is made by them?

Maybe whatever your plugging into it, is exceeding the amp rating? The cig lighter itself works ok?

Thanks for the response, turned out we got two bad cigarette lighters, had to drive a bit to pick up a new different one, and then it worked. Thanks again.
