The brake lights on my 2005 Chevy aveo started staying on the other day. I haven't had any accidents, or any other incidents that could have damaged the car. I did notice that the brake pedal is about 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch away from keepin the plunger on the switch compressed. Is the switch bad, or do I need to adjust the brake pedal, and how do I do that?

The plunger should be depressed by the brake pedal arm this will open the brake circuit and when brake is applied the plunger should extend closing the brake circuit turning on the brake lights. Try adjusting the brake switch so that the brake arm is compressing the plunger to turn off the light.
