Gentlemen.

This is problem developing over one month. Difficult to start vehicle in the rain. Gotten worse such that van will not start in the rain. Van turns over and over until battery runs down. Example, car started this AM just fine - without the slightest misfire. It rained today - not heavey - and car was in parking lot. NOT driven in rain. Van - in parking lot - not driven in the rain - would turn over and over and over never starting - until battery ran out. Again this has started and gotten worse over a month. As it has gotten worse the Van would start in wet conditions and hesitate and run rough on and off for a few hundred yards and then run fine. Van would again run rough if I went through huge water puddle. But then clear up and run fine.

I have a vague recollection of this happening before with a Vortec V6 blazer and I replaced the ignition cables and the blazer ran like new. My plan for theis weekend is to replace the spark plug wires and spark plugs, which will be a huge endevor on a Astro Van. I'm talking tire removal and wheel well removal - not fun - but the kids and wife will stay away!

Thank you for all your help. I have no problem donating. I have paypal if you take that.

Change the distrubitor cap and rotor as well, very common for these to build up moisture inside the cap and cause a missfire until it burns off. You will probably find the inside of the cap green and wet.

Would my van even have a distributor cap? I would have thought a 2000 Astro would have some electronic ignition and not the run of the mill distributor cap.

Yes it has a distrubutor and cap, your vehicle probably has a 4.3L engine, just take the doghouse off from the inside of the vehicle and the cap and rotor is wright there.
