1999 Chevy Astro rear differential

When I drive my van. I get a humming sound from the back. I notice when im driving an ready to park or make a u turn I get a vibration from the front wheel and the back like theres a grabbing. What u think it is

Hi there,
Normally you can tell a diff whine by backing off the throttle and it changes pitch, wheel bearings normally just get louder and softer with road speed. As for the grabbing, I would have all the transmission oil levels check first.

Would u think its best to change the back wheel bearings. When I service the rear it looked good

Hi there,

I would only be changing the bearings if they are noisy, is there any play in the bearings, is the noise constant with road speed can you get the pitch to change by backing off the throttle, try and identify some of these symptoms first and report back, just changing the bearings may be an expense that is not required, but if you feel that it is the wheel bearings then do it.
