Service engine soon

I have a 1998 Astro van and I notice when I accelerate to get on the expressway that my 'service engine soon' light comes on. It only comes on when I accelerate abruptly to get on the expressway. I don't notice any other problems while driving. Any ideas?

Hello,

There could be a number of reasons why the light is being illuminated. From any of the engine control sensors to emission issues.
The best course of action would be to scan the vehicle and retrieve the error code(s). This can help with the diagnostics.

Many times, emission issues can trigger the engine light but will not have any drivability issues.
