My drivers side power window became intermittent going up in hot weather. Changed out motor as the web indicated that a warn motor would overheat and become intermittent. After replacing motor it worked fine for a day. The next day it would only go down half way. The next day it didn't move at all (it is in the up position) and I got a burning smell. Removed new motor. Putting a volt meter across the connector, and activating the window button it looked like +12 v in one position, then reversing the probes and moving the switch in the other direction it looks like -12 V. Hooking up either motor to the connector (motor in my lap) gets no results when activating the switch.

Any suggestions?

Where is the resetting relay that halts the window when it overheats? Is there a relay for each window or do they share one?

Thanks

There is no power window relay. Possibly the window is binding going up or down and may be burning up the motors? May try lubricating the run channels with some fresh lubriplate grease. Another possibility is an intermittent short in the window switch itself. Either way it sounds like the window motor is gone again. You could take 2 leads and hook them to either motor's connectors if you can get to them. Put one lead on power then touch the other to ground and see if the motor moves one way. Then reverse the leads to see if it goes the other way. This would verify motor operation.
