1995 Chevy Astro Repair or replace?

Engine Mechanical problem
1995 Chevy Astro 6 cyl 139768 miles

I have a loud knocking sound which I believe is a lower end problem. The few repair quotes I have heard are almost more than book value of the vehicle. I'm told one can put some extra-thick restore or motor honey in and hope for the best. If I were to buy a rebuilt engine, how big a job am I facing to put it in myself?

Those oil additives are like using a band-aid on a bullet hole when you are talking about bottom end problems. An additive cant make up bearing clearences. As far as DIY, if you arent very capable around a vehicle, I wouldnt try it. This is a hard engine r&r
