I just got the van off a family member he told me that he replaced the alternator but the battery still don't hold a charge can the new alternator be bad or can it be some thing else, the batter it has is new I put that in

Could be a defective new alternator get it load tested if okay check and test wiring/fusible links/fuse gages 20amp-See below Charge system EWD.
