My vehicle displayed the service engine soon light today, and also the check transmission message appears off and on. The vehicle seems to shift normally. What could be the problem?

Good morning,

The light indicates a fault being stored in the system. You need to have the code checked so I can help narrow the area of failure.

When was the last time you changed the fluid and filter?

I had the code pulled and it is P1744. Torque converter solenoid. Is this a repair that needs to be done immediately?

OK, the 1744 is for the clutches in the torque converter are slipping.

The longer you wait, the more damage will be done. The metal from the slipping clutches gets into the valve body and can damage the valve body and other clutches.

I would not wait long at all. Get it looked at as soon as you can.

Would you recommend to replace the torque converter?

That will most likely be the repair but when the converter is removed, the oil needs to be inspected. If there is metal in the oil, then the rest of the transmission should be cleaned out, and new clutches and steels plates.
