Check engine light and code P0700

I recently purchased the truck listed above it is an HD. It has a check engine light when the code is read, reads P0700. All I could find was "Transmission Control Module Requested MIL Illumination". The truck drives fine but will not pass smog with the light on. Previous owners say the truck went into limp mode.

You will require diagnostic scanner that can communicate with the TCM, a generic scanner will not have this function, you need to be able to read the information in the TCM check with any of the larger workshops near you, they may have this capability.

If you have an Advance Auto near you, there will retrieve the codes from the transmission control module for free, AutoZone might too, but it all depends if their scan tool has the capability. That P0700 code means that the TCM has a code stored in it.

Okay, thank you for that. I drove the truck about fifteen miles home and it drove as normal as I could tell. No hard shifts, no high rpm's, no slipping in the transmission. Could it be something as simple as needing a new TCM? Obviously I will need to actually read what code is on it now but I am just hoping that this is not going to turn into a $2,000.00 or more repair.
