CEL(check engine light) with loss of power light on

Just purchased and of course light goes on. Had code read and it appears to be a voltage differences from point A to point B. I assume that is pedal to throttle body. The car runs no different then before the lights lit up. There does not appear to be a clear reason known as a lot of people appear to have similar problems. How do I remedy this without tossing money down a shaft?
