What does a malfunctioning catalytic converter rattle sound like? I have a slight rattle underneath near the transfer case, but it does not sound like metal on metal.

Hello, I'm Danny.

Here are a few tutorials for you to view relating to catalytic converter symptoms, testing, and replacement:

Sometimes when a catalytic converter fails chunks of the substrate will break and rattle around inside the converter and is what you might be hearing rattle. It can cause damage to the exhaust system, will trigger the check engine light, and will cause performance and gas mileage loss. I've attached picture steps below on how to replace the catalytic converters on your truck. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
