Hello, to all who read my car which is almost ready to drive once my tires get delivered has had a fuel mixture issue since I upgraded the system with this kit:

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-2021?seid=srese1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwka_1BRCPARIsAMlUmErNqWUgv3EXQx4P3E8_JgAcwu06K10q8OjpFKt2IyBwZUkYlgTNp_4aAgdCEALw_wcB

I have put in 3 different sets of idle mixture screws and still no change. I have her idling at 850 890-ish RPM's but cold starts are terrible as I have to hold the pedal to the floor for it to even idle but once it's warmed up it'll sit there and idle with a very very light stumble sometimes. I for the most part have no idea what I'm doing I just twist a screw or adjust timing here or there and hope I'm doing something right.

Now what I have learned about this engine is it appears to be a newer 305 block on 1976 heads that seem decent besides having bad valve stem seals and supposedly it was turned into a 307 I have no idea if this is true though and I don't know if that would result in any kind of a difference.

I have had to adjust timing all the way to picture shown to get it to idle this low right in the middle of that circle piece of the timing bracket piece.

Thank you for any advice given towards this situation and have a good day.

I could record two videos of the cold start and then one of it idling if that'll help with any understanding. Thanks.

Good morning,

First, on the picture you posted, the timing is retarded, not advanced as it should be. It should be up on the scale at about 10 degrees. Can you set the timing there?

I think a lot of your issue starting has to do with the timing. When you get the timing correct, it should start much better.

The idle mixture screws only control the idle only, not anything above idle.

Please send the additional videos so I can hear what is happening.

So I adjusted the timing to 10 degrees and she starts and runs pretty decent so the starting issue is solved, but now my high idle is back as shown in the video without vacuum advance it's around 1200 1300-ish when on the EGR controlled advance it goes up a bit and when I'm on the non EGR side it shoots up to 1600-ish the car no longer has any EGR equipment on it I believe. There is some weird vacuum valve piece on the passenger side manifold that hooked to the EGR on the intake before I swapped the intake though and I just have it unhooked and the hole on it is plugged.

Okay, thanks.

The choke is partially closed which means the high idle cam is holding the idle up.

If you open the choke and then then the idle should come down to around 650. Make sure you hook up the vacuum advance as well.

Then when it is lowered to that, adjust the idle mixture screws for the smoothest idle.
