I recently changed my intake manifold gasket on my car after a p0171 code. When I was removing my manifold a coolant tube on the throttle body came loose and leaked so I decided to flush the engine coolant out and refill. After putting everything back into place I cranked the car and it would turn on and quickly idle hard and shut off. I went to check the hood and the gasket was out of place. I bought another gasket and redid the process. I put everything back into place properly plus clipped some chipped tube that connected to the manifold. When I turned the car on it idled rough but stayed on and ran. However, when it came time to move it I hit the gas and it had no power whatsoever. I’m not sure if I did something wrong here.

Hi,

The idea that it happened after the repair leads me to believe (like I think you do too) there is a major vacuum leak. What tube did you clip? Also, have you confirmed that nothing has been left unplugged and the air intake tube between the air filter and the throttle body is secure and not misaligned?

Here is a link that explains how to check for a vacuum leak. Try this and let me know the results.

Also, make sure the mass air flow sensor/inlet air temperature sensor hasn't been left unplugged or damaged. See pic 1.

One last thing, the code you had indicates a lean fuel mixture. Are you sure it was a result of the intake gasket? There are many things that can cause a lean mixture.

Let me know what you find.

Joe

Hi,

Was it an engine vacuum hose? I'm curious. That will certainly cause this type of issue. By the way, glad to hear you found the problem.

If you get a chance, let me know.

Take care,

Joe
