Car stops when put in drive

I was recently moving my car to a visitor parking spot and after I reversed to back out of a different spot I put my car in drive and as soon as I accelerated, it stopped and I had to turn it off twice for it to work properly. Throughout the whole day before this happened, my car shifted from park to drive fine and accelerated fine.

Hi,

Is the check engine light staying on with the engine running? If it is, the computer needs scanned. Here is a quick video that shows how it is done. I realize most people don't own a scanner, but most parts stores will do it for you free of charge.

When you place it in gear, does it lurch forward or backwards and then stall or does it just simply stall?

Let me know. There a several different things which can cause this to happen. However, if the check engine light stays on when the engine is running, we need to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it for free. If that is the case, have it done and let me know the codes which are found.
