Okay, I put radiator flush in my car and ran it for 20 minutes. I had the heater on the on position and the whole time it blew out cold, why?

Hi,

Actually, that looks really clean. There is no restriction there.

This is likely the result of one of two things. First, the heater core is plugged and heated coolant can't circulate through it.

To test this theory, start the engine, turn the heat on high, and allow the engine to reach operating temperature. Once it does, turn the engine off. Open the hood and feel both heater hoses at the firewall. Both should be hot. If one is and the other isn't, there is no coolant flow, and the heater core will need to be flushed or replaced.

Next, there is a blend air door that controls how much heat enters the vehicle. On this car, it is controlled by a cable. So, we will need to check that the cable is good, attached, and causing the blend air door to move.

Try this and let me know the results. Also, make sure you feel tension on the temp knob in the vehicle when changing from hot to cold. If you adjust the temp quickly, oftentimes you will hear the door shut.

Take care and let me know what I can do to help.

Joe

Oh, and I'm trying to flush the system with my bad radiator it leaks out a little when it gets in the normal operating temperature. Is that okay, or do I need to change out my radiator to flush the system properly.

Hi,

If it is a small leak, you should be okay. However, if you are flushing through the radiator, that may not help with the heater core. Actually, the core may not be plugged.

By chance, were you able to check if both heater core hoses get hot?

Let me know.

Hi,

Thanks for the update. Was it a blend air door actuator issue? I'm interested in knowing.

Take care,

Joe

Thanks for the info. I'm glad to know it's working for you again. Interestingly, I have a Chevy Van with both heater core hoses how and no heat inside. This one has a blend air door that is cable actuated and moving, so it should work. LOL I guess that is something I get to play with tomorrow.

Regardless, thanks for letting me know.

Take care and feel free to come back anytime in the future.
