In need of help please! While my truck is in drive a rattling sound is heard whenever foot is lifted off the pedal. I've taken my truck to four different mechanic shops with no luck. Here's what each shop told me:
Shop 1. It is the transmission but to get a second opinion.
Shop 2. Transmission Specialist: Never heard the sound before. Kept for three days and was told it's the engine.
Shop 3. Engine Rebuild shop: Test drove it but didn't hear a problem. I forgot to mention it makes a sound when the pedal is released so he barely heard it.
Shop 4. It is not the transmission but it's a part called the transmission transfer. Was supposed to call me once he got a price for the part. He never called so I called and he said he's still waiting. Two weeks later I guess he's still waiting.

The mechanic at shop 2 was the one that noticed when it actually makes the noise. He also told me I can drive it on third gear because it doesn't make any sound.

Hi Priscilla,

Unfortunately, those people sent you all over the place. The best thing I can do to help is ask for a recording of the noise. If you just get a video showing the dash so we can see speed and RPM, then we can hear the nose, we will be able to get you in a better direction.

It is just that a rattle could be a lot of things plus the fact that it only does it in deceleration points to a gear issue. However, the speed/rate of the rattle could lead us away for a gear issue. Plus the fact that you have had people who heard it say it is in the engine, transmission, and one could not hear it makes me a little nervous trying to identify it because I could be way off.

Thanks
