Engine and drive train swap

Can I swap DOHC drive train from 1999 Excel into a 8/1997 model Excel X3? I got the 1999 as a whole car with DOHC drive train and my 1997 SOHC is on its way out. Thinking of refurbishing the DOHC and train and putting it in my clean and straight 1997. Please help.

The thing to look for is the wiring harnesses might have slight differences so be ready for that also is both cars california emissions? Or 49 state? Air conditioning? Automatics?

Also, wrecking yards have a special program that can tell you if the engine can be swapped.
