Can I replace my engine with a RWD engine if my car is AWD?

I had overfilled my engine with oil and seemed to have messed it up badly. Mechanic came by and advised that I needed a new engine since the oil messed up the motor. I’ve been looking and was curious, if my car is a AWD Lexus will the RWD motor still operate the same way? I figured it would not matter but I'm not sure. I’m not trying to make the car RWD just seeing if it will still operate the same and won’t have to do major changes.

Hi,

As long as the engine is the same size and from the same year, it should work. The only thing that will be different is the transmission. However, it should bolt up to the one in your vehicle.

Also, you may need to change sensors from your engine to the new one as well as the fuel injectors.

What is the engine doing that makes it need replacement? How much did you overfill it?

Let me know. I'm questioning if the engine is bad.

Thanks for your answer.
The engine is the same year and size it just RWD and the issue that has occurred was engine knocking, it started smoking bad from the exhaust and the car completely shut off while driving on the road. It now will not start at all. When I had filled it, I put two of the big oil bottles in.

Hi,

okay. Chances are you used 10 quarts. That is a bit too much. LOL, could you do me a favor? Record the engine cranking and upload it for me to hear. I'm curious if there is an issue with timing. I can usually tell by listening to it crank.

Please keep in mind, you should consider switching the sensors and injectors between the two engines. I've seen differences with fuel injectors that create fuel delivery differences and then engine issues. If you switch everything over, the computer will know what is happening. LOL
