The above vehicle which I recently purchased used, and which operates very well, came with a motor operated 3rd row seating system.I do not ever expect to utilize this and I am wondering if it is practical to remove it as there might be fuel economy savings by eliminating this extra weight and there also might be an increase in storage space by a lowered floor. The auto without the 3rd row has removable storage trays and other space for tools etc. My Cadillac dealer says it can`t be done but surely if they installed it could be removed? Can you offer any practical advice?

There is a procedure for rear seat #2 removal, I don't know what it is going to look like under the seat. I don't know as though you are going to gain much additional storage space, and the fuel economy increase may be slightly more than a trace amount. The seat is not going to weigh that much. Here is the procedure, for your reference.

I think you have mis-understood my question as it appears you are showing me how to remove 2nd row seats. The 3rd row seats can be automatically stowed flat in the Cadillac Srx. Can you look at this again and advise me. Thanks.

Rear #2 is third row seat. Rear #1 would be second row. Notice in the illustration, the proximity to the storage area(what looks like a spare tire well). Whether or not this is the power folding seat, I am not 100%. I was routed too the procedure through hyperlinks from rear seat control module replacement.

O.K. And thanks.I guess my question should have been directed to G.M. What I am thinking of doing is converting this 3rd row seating arrangement to the other standard arrangement for this luggage area which is a flat floor with underfloor storage compartments (one removable). This is shown in photos 35, 36, and 37 in Ebay motors item 380253557989,2008 srx.I would remove the seats and floor and buy the alternate floor from G.M.I presume these 2 arrangements are interchangeable?Any comments?

I would imagine they are interchangeable, the vehicle is built on only one platform, with provisions for both options. I am not certain what all you would need to complete the job.

In thought, I also went and did some more research. There may be some programming needed as well. It has a seat module that is part of the low speed communications buss. I am not sure who uses the info, I would imagine that when the keyless is used to initite the seats operation, the seat module uses input from that to enable operation, but I don't know who would use seat info, if anyone. There may be issues with it's removal. There also may be an option to program without third row option, in something like a body controller. Service information does not give that scenario.

Just to clarify, by second row are you referring to the seat behind the driver seat, or the third row? Is third row, is it manual or power folding? Here are diagrams that show the complete set up so you can see just how anything works. Check out the rear seat diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Can I install the third row seat in a 2008 Cadillac SRX if it was not a factory option? I found a used third row package the same color as mine and it comes with all that is requried.

If you have all the hardware for it, there should be no reason why not. However, the seat belts (over the shoulder) will require different interior trim.

When I press the third row seat fold button, only the back moves. Not the bottom, so the seat won't fold flat. Auto body shop tells me the problem is a cable the is discontinued from the factory. Can this be right?

There is a tsb on this very thing that requires a bezel replacement check with the dealer. If the cable has been discontinued there is another in it's place.

Technical service bulletin sent to dealers from the corporation for problems that arise after manufacture. Sometimes they do for free but your car being 6 yrs old not sure on that. Nor whether it will fix it or not.
