2004 Cadillac SRX 2004 Cacilllac Popping slipping noise

This 2004 SRX AWD has a loud popping racheting noise on hard accelleration. It even does it power braking it. When the noise happens power braking the output shafts on transfer case do not trun. Thought the transfer case chain was slipping. Installed different transfer case still have same problem. Any help?

If it does it power braking, can the aid of a second person narrow it down to where it originates. Is it heard under the hood, is it possibly a catalyst that is broken apart inside? The latter can often be reproduced by banging on one or the other with a rubber hammer. I am assuming that there is no associated feeling with the noise, loss of torque or hesitation?

Sounds like inner half shaft knuckles slipping at the joint.
