2000 Cadillac EL Dorado Oil Filter Location

I need to change the oil on my Northstar V-8 but am unsure of where the oil filter is located. Also, are there any special tools required to remove/install the filter?

Might consider buying a cup type oil filter wrench

Removal Procedure

Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.

Position the oil drain pan under the engine oil drain plug.
Remove the engine oil drain plug.
Clean and inspect the engine oil drain plug, repair or replace if necessary.

Remove the oil filter.
Installation Procedure

Fill the oil filter with oil.
Lightly oil the replacement oil filter gasket with clean oil. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the new oil filter. Tighten the new oil filter to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).

Install the engine oil drain plug. Tighten the engine oil drain plug to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
Remove the oil drain pan from under the vehicle.
Lower the vehicle.
Fill the engine with new engine oil.
Inspect for oil leaks after engine start up.
Verify oil level.
