While driving the car will accelerate on its own and when you stop and put it in park the engine revs up to 3000 rpms. Does this occasionally and it's dangerous.

Is there a check engine light that goes along with this. Does it feel like the gas pedal sticks, or has some dead space. You could have a faulty IAC valve or dirty passage, a failing TPS sensor, deposits in the throttle bore, or faulty/sticking throttle or cruise cable. What causes the idle to come to normal, restarting?

It really needs to have a scan tool hooked up to see what is telling it to idle high, or what is causing it to idle high. You didn't mention whether a check engine light was on.
