I had to replace the A-B shift solenoid. Cost me about a $100. Oo to have it done.

If it is a northstar powertrain, there is an updated solenoid kit that includes a bracket to prevent them from breakage. You can pull the pan and look at both of them, there is a filter in between them that in early years was kept in place by the solenoid. There must be certain conditions where this filter has some pressure behind it, and it would end up breaking the solenoid. The kit includes both solenoids, the bracket, and a longer bolt. The lower valve body needs to be removed to replace them.
