Transmission problem
1994 Cadillac El Dorado V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

two days ago, my car started losing power as I
accellerated on the gas. It seems to not want to
go into 3rd and 4th gears. The car service engine
soon light comes on then and the car hesitates
badly and either wants to stall or will stall out. It
does start up again though. I replaced the ignition
switch in the dash(not in the wheel) with no
success and think it is in the transmission now. I
have a very limited budget, please advise me.
I have never had any problems with the transmission before.
There is 92,000 original miles on the car only.
It always shifted good, didn't make noise, never
hesitated before and always had good power until
the other day. I would appreciate any help. Thanks
There were never apparent signs of a bad transmission. It was all of a sudden it started acting up and the power seems limited now. It starts up fine, starts running down the road ok, but then loses
some power when trying to shift into higher gears
then seems to want to stall out or does stall, but
will restart up again. It has the northstar V8 engine
and an automatic transmission.

I would recommend having the fuel pressure checked first, then we need to find out why the check engine light is on. It could all tie to low fuel pressure, and a consequential lean condition. It could also have an egr valve that is sticking open causing a large internal vacuum leak.
