Hi. I am trying to get my Cadillac through state inspection. My check engine light is on and I have been to several mechanics. The first put (1) used coil in the car, which helped a little with some bad shaking (at stand still) and slow acceleration up hill. I stop using him, because my car wouldn't start after he was finished with it. The second mechanic I took it to, got the car started ( first dummy took wires out of my car ! ), And then this mechanic claimed the car was misfiring. So he claimed he fixed an antifreeze leak, but the check engine light is still on. Now he says it needed a new coil. So I brung the car back. Then he said it needs another coil in additiion to the other before he started working on the car, and said if that didn't work, something about the transmission would have to be fixed. So I got my car from him. Here is the AutoZone diagnostics; Catalyst efficiency low bank 1;Random cylinder misfire detected; POM or PVM? Solenoid electrical fault. The car still shakes sometimes and it does still get some slow acceration up hill. Other mechanics can only guess to say fuel injector, piston rings, head gasket problems over the phone. Oh yeah and my A/C doesn't work if thats any help. Please someone that knows about Cadillacs please help me.

If you have a catalyst efficiency fault set, you have a failing catalytic converter. If you have some driveability issues, they should be addressed first to prevent damage to damage to a new converter. Don't know what you mean by POM/PVM, if you have the numeric code description, that would actually be more beneficial to me. The catalyst fault, along with the misfire fault, are emission related and capable of turning your light on. Could you perhaps be saying PWM solenoid, like TCC PWM, which is transmission related and also capable of the light. A person with a scan tool should be able to read which cylinder is misfiring, and focus on that cylinder.
