Hello, I have a 2002 Cadillac DeVille, 90,000 miles and was wanting to know what are the symptoms of an clutch housing leak? My transmission runs fine. Also I know to check transmission fluid when hot but I checked it cold and theres was nothing on the dip stick. I was under the impression there should still be some kind of fluid on it even when cold? I drove it to get some more transmission fluid and I checked it right before I went in to the store and it was full almost to the top with fluid. I looked in it and it was almost to the cap and was wondering if it is safe to drive for a long trip? Thank You very much.

If the bushing in the third clutch housing is worn, your symptom would be an external leak at the left(drivers) side axle seal. Often times a seal is recommended as a repair, and it repeats leaking fluid shortly after. There should have been fluid on the stick, even when cold. You should notice on the stick, a cold range, and a hot range. I would assume that when you checked it at the store it was still running, in park? If you have no other driveability symptoms, or a check engine light, it should be fine for a trip.

Thank You for the reply. Well I checked it again and looked in the fill hole and I see absolutley nothing in it or on the dip stick. When its hot its almost over flowing. I dont have any external leaks. No check engin lights info states transmission fluid life is at 100%.
I just wanted to see if anyone on here can give me some info. I took it to the cadillac dealer ship and they said it was a third clutch housing leak but I thought they were blowing smoke up my butt. I also went to someone I know who does a little work on cars but not a lot and he said that the leak they speak of would be an internal leak? So I dont know who to go by as I have had very bad experiences with dealerships ripoffs (3k to fix they quoted) and other mechanics. Thank you in advance for any info out there great motor heads.

P.S
i will try n get a picture up of the transmission fill hole when cold and then when hot. I just dont know what to think if its normal or a disaster waiting to happen.
