What is the recommended temperature for the coolant in a 97 Cadillac Sedan deVille D'Elegance with a V8 Northstar engine? If the thermostat needs to be replaced, where the heck is the darn thing?

The engine should be operating around 190 degrees, but this is going to vary slightly depending on the engine and what thermostat you have in the engine.

However, it should not be over 210 or consistently above 205. If the engine gets hot and then cools down, then that is fine but if the temperature stays over 205 and does not drop then that is too high but not going to damage the engine.
