1996 Cadillac Deville V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a code of P0717 I have been told it is the Transaxle Input Speed Sensor I have been told the only way to repair this is by dropping the transmission, is this the only way or is there an easier way?

Removing the trans is unfortunately the easiest way. In the field, we have lowered one side and removed the case cover to access it. This is a bit more difficult, and if not done right, damage or undesired results may occur.
