LOL I honestly think they can smell me coming lol I think my next move will be trying and get the connector for the speed sensor replaced. I might as well go for a cheaper option at this time. Who knows it might fix the problem. I do have a question though. Just how bad does a bad speed sensor have an effect on a vehicle anyway? I know it will cause the ABS light to come on of course but since brakes are mechanical doesn't seem like it could cause someone's brakes to be kind of hard to press one min and then spongy the next min. Can it? Sorry to be asking such elementary type kind of questions but I am just trying to get a clear understanding of them is all. I've watched a lot of YouTube videos but none of them seem to get to the point etc. If anybody looking for the part number for the speed sensor connector etc its PT1983 and the gm part number is 88860538 at least that's the part number for now anyway.

Hi,

The sensor will not cause the brake system to fail. However, the ABS system will not function. In other words, you have a vehicle without anti-lock brakes when the light is on.

Let me know how things work out for you.

Take care,

Joe

That's what I thought. I diffidently want the abs to work. Because that van has a heavy wheelchair lift in it and I want to have as much of a control stop as I can get. Well I will let you know what happens.

Update (well if you want to call it an update): I was supposed to have gotten the speed sensor connector connected Thursday but the repair guy said that they have a vehicle on their lift and they are waiting on a part so they can finish fixing this guy's transmission (that was Thursday). Friday the repair shop guy tells me, hey bring it in on Friday morning. Well, I did the same vehicle on the lift again. And they are waiting on this guy's part so they can get finished still. So, then he tells me to save myself a trip from coming and going to his shop he would call me to let me know when he could look at it. Well So far, no call. But while I was driving my van the ABS light didn't come on at all on my way to the store(s) and it took about 5 - 15 minutes to get where I was going. Turn the van off and on 2 times too. So far, no ABS light. But halfway home then it decides to come on. LOL And stays on all the way home. If fixing the speed sensor connector doesn't fix it, then I am just going to drive it and ignore it. And yeah, I know that is dangerous but I don't know what else to do and the cost of repairs and not getting it fixed is starting to add up. I will just have to wait until I save some more money later on to fix it.

Here is the best picture I could get of the speed sensor / connector etc. You may have to download the picture to see if you can see it better. I know it's not too clear, but it's the best I could get. And no, the speed sensor connector hasn't been changed yet. But the speed sensor has (2 times).

Hi,

I do see it in the picture, but really can't make out too much. Has the new connector been installed or is that the original one?

Yeah, i kind of figured it would be hard to see. and no, the new connector hasn't been installed yet. The original one is still on there. i was trying to get some pictures of it before having it installed. Maybe this little short video clip i shot may help a little bit. This link is to my YouTube channel. The clips below you won't be able to see it at all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glSFQtqYu-4 If you still can't see it very good i understand... well at least i tried.

Hello there. :-) Yeah, I know and that is the most frustrating part about it. I can't tell if it's in good or bad shape or should I have someone install the new connector or not etc. But I will let you know what happens.

Can problems outside the ABS and brake systems such as low car battery, electrical problems. Could that cause the ABS light to come on and go off? Looks like I may have to take it to Midas.

Hi,

To answer your question, absolutely low battery voltage can cause such problems. Actually, today's vehicles are so dependent on getting exactly what they need, that nearly anything can fail or cause problems.

Let me know.

Well, just wanted to keep you guys informed. So far I haven't been to a repair shop as of yet to get it fixed (have to save enough money again etc, first). But today, I drove my van to the store etc. And the ABS light didn't come on at all. Going to the store and coming back home. It stayed completely off. Now, having said that. What it will do the next time I drive it who knows. But this time. For the first time. It stayed completely off. Now what I am about to say may have something to do with it or maybe not but I just wanted to give you guys a complete picture of what happened. 2 days ago I let my brother drive my van ( I was with him + my mother) and he used the regular gas and brake pedal etc. I kept asking him did the brake pedal felt soft or spongy to him. And he told me that the brakes felt normal to him. So that is the latest I have for my van. I know its not much of an update but that's what happened.
