I need to bypass the A/C compressor with the belt because it froze up and burned up my belt. When I originally got it it just had a belt around the other stuff but my father in law decided to change it and now it burned up. I need to know how to measure the size belt I need.

Hey SCOTT BROWNING,

I would start by checking with a parts distributor whether they list a belt for non A/C equipped I30's with the same motor. If they do try this and see how you go.

If they do not you will have to measure yourself, the only method I can think of is running a piece of string (or similar) in the routing you desire, cutting the string to the length of the run. You will then need a belt the same as the original (width/ribs) that measures an inch or so shorter than this.

You will have to make sure that with the belt running with out going around the A/C pulley that it will not interfere with any other pulley/engine component. Once the new belt is installed check the whole run to make sure it clears.

Hope this helps.

Let us know how you get on with this repair. If you find a good belt if you can give us the part number people with the same issue will then be able to use this for reference.

Regards, Joe
