Burning plastic smell

My wife smelled a burning plastic smell. Took car to our mechanic smelled the smell and noticed some light smoke coming from the front driver's headlight area.

Hello,

This could be a wire that has melted and created the smell and the smoke.
You might want to take a look at the back of the headlight to see if you are able to locate any burnt wires.
This could be the primary wire that connects to the headlight housing.

However, the best course of action would be to inspect and locate what has burnt. As there are several components in that area.

Is there any component(s) that is not functioning?

Also, with that mileage and the year of the vehicle, it should have factory warranty. You might want to call your local dealer.
