I am experiencing an intermittent issue where upon hard acceleration burning oil can be smelled (only once have I seen dark colored exhaust during hard acceleration). This seems to be only when the engine is still cold and close to 5,000 RPM's. The vehicle was at my local Ford dealer within the last two weeks for new tires, an oil change, and other miscellaneous items. And during that visit the service adviser didn't mention any issues that needed to be addressed.

This being my first vehicle with a turbo, I'm wondering if this sort of behavior is normal, especially when the engine is cold and the ambient air temperature is below freezing.

Thanks in advance.

This is somewhat normal on these due to the normal level of oil residue that will be present in the intake tracts. On hard acceleration you could see a puff of smoke from time to time. If it becomes excessive like the traffic behind you becomes invisible from the smoke, then take it to your local Ford dealer for inspection. They won't fully check things like this unless you let them know or if there is something obviously wrong, like a wheel almost falling off of something safety related.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll keep an eye on it and be sure to bring it in should the exhaust smoke become excessive.
