When driving somtimes when turning arround 30 mph the steering will get real easy almost like slip for a split second then catch. It is intermittent. I believe it has variable effort steering. There is a valve or sensor on the back of the pump and one one the pressure line near the gear box. How do I tell if it is? And should I suspect the valves or pump?

When it comes to variable assist in GM's I have usually found it to be the steering wheel rotation sensor. But first you need to have the ECM scanned to be sure it doesnt see any problems withe VSS (vehicle speed sensor) circuit. Does the cruise and speedo work properly? They must in order for the variable assist to work.
